Ten Is Too Young For Prison

Nearly 600 children aged 10 to 13 were imprisoned in Australia last year, with thousands more caught in the criminal legal system. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are disproportionately affected, making up 65% of these young prisoners. Children deserve love and support to reach their full potential—not incarceration. Raise The Age is working to change laws that allow children to be imprisoned. In July 2019, a major push gathered signatures for a petition before the bill was introduced. Children should have Muesli Bars, Monkey Bars, and Mars Bars—not prison bars.
